Comments: Allan McIntosh (Nee: ) | Matilda Township Canada | 1851-1900 | Comments: This is a portrait of Mr. Allan McIntosh standing next to the original McIntosh Red apple tree. The photo appears on page 24 of The Canadian Horticulturist, vol.23, no.1, January 1900. See that reference for more details. Allan McIntosh was born 24 August 1815 and reportedly died 3 February 1899. His grandfather was a farmer near the Mohawk river in New York. His father came to Canada at age 18 and in the year 1811 settled in Matilda Township. Allan grew up here and is reportedly the first propagator of the McIntosh Red apple variety. Allan had a son named Harvey. That is all the information I have on him. I am not researching this line, just saw the photo and thought I'd post it.
