Comments: Robert Clark Kedzie (Nee: ) | MI United States | 1851-1900 | Comments: This portrait of Mr. Robert Clark Kedzie appears as frontispiece illustration to the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, Bureau of Chemistry, Bulletin no.73, Proceedings of the Nineteenth Annual Convention of the Association of Official Agricultural Chemists, 2-4, October, 1902, Washington: Government Printing Office, 1903. There is a memoir of him on pages 85-86 of that title. See that reference for more details.
Robert Clark Kedzie was born at Delhi, New York on 28 January 1823. At age three his family moved to Michigan in Lenawee County --his father died soon after. His mother and her seven children had to fend for themselves. At age 17 Robert entered Oberlin College. He taught school. In 1851 he received a degree of M.D. from the medical school of the University of Michigan. He later served with the Twelfth Michigan Infantry. He later was a professor of chemistry at the Michigan Agricultural College --in 1902 he became a professor emeritus there. He was one of the original members of the Michigan State Board of Health and was its president for four years. In 1898 he was elected president of the association of official agricultural chemists. Dr. Kedzie died 7 November 1902. That is all the information I have on him.
