Comments: Susan Jane Daniel (Nee: Bass) | MS Unites States | 1901-1920 | Comments: Susan Jane Bass Daniel was the daughter of Zadock Bass and Jane Russell. She was born June 10, 1833 in Alabama and married Alexander Daniel July 12, 1860 in Pontotoc County, Mississippi.
Prior to her death she was living with her son John Edwin "Jesse" Daniel in Dardanelle, Yell County, Arkansas. She died there from cancer in May 1904.
Her grandson, Elzie Daniel remembered a man coming to see her and that she went away from the house to talk to him. She later told Elzie that the man was her cousin and he couldn't come in because he had been riding with the Bass gang. I do not think this was Sam Bass, the time period and place are all wrong, but there are some other "shady" characters in the Bass and Daniel family that are candidates. Grandpa Elzie also swore there was no Indian blood in the family, but Susan does have some way back in North Carolina on the Bass side.
Her husband Alexander Daniel served for the Union in the Civil War, Grandpa Elzie said he guarded corn, which means he was in the infantry.
