He died in Illinois (Marengo, McHenry County, Illinois?) on 15 Jan 1918. She died in Manteno, Cook, Illinois in 1955. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War with the 161st Indiana Volunteers and served in Havana, Cuba, as part of the occupation troops. They had 4 children. According to family stories, Llewellyn was employed as a railroad conductor and became involved in a train accident where his leg was smashed and caught under some heavy weight. Continuing the family "legend", he supposedly heroically sawed off his own leg with a penknife but unfortunately sepsis set in and he died of gangrene. Bessie wored as a field worker for the Red Cross and as a social worker in Chicago.
