Comments: Llewellyn Dudley & Elizabeth (Bessie) Edna (Loomis) Crandall (Nee: ) | IL United States | 1851-1900 | Comments: This is the wedding picture of Llewellyn Dudley CRANDALL Sr. born 15 Mar 1875 in Griggsville, Pike, Illinois, and his bride, Elizabeth (Bessie) Edna LOOMIS, born on 8 Dec 1876 in Huntsburg, Geauga County, Ohio. He died in Illinois (Marengo, McHenry County, Illinois?) on 15 Jan 1918. She died in Manteno, Cook, Illinois in 1955. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War with the 161st Indiana Volunteers and served in Havana, Cuba, as part of the occupation troops. They had 4 children. According to family stories, Llewellyn was employed as a railroad conductor and became involved in a train accident where his leg was smashed and caught under some heavy weight. Continuing the family "legend", he supposedly heroically sawed off his own leg with a penknife but unfortunately sepsis set in and he died of gangrene. Bessie wored as a field worker for the Red Cross and as a social worker in Chicago.
