Comments: Jacob Conrad Shafer (Nee: ) | Baltimore City MD United States | 1851-1900 | Comments: Jacob Conrad Shafer was born Jan. 11, 1836 in Hessen, Germany. His older brother, Nicholas, came to America earlier and paid for Jacob's emigration in 1852. Jacob moved from Ohio to Baltimore in 1870. He married Hannah Fillmore Horn (daughter of Benjamin Horn and Regina Reppert) in 1873. They had 1 son and 6 daughters (search "Florence Riefle"). Meanwhile, Jacob founded the Jacob C. Shafer & Co. Pork Packers, which became nationally known as the most innovative of its kind at the time. In 1886, the Shafer's lived at 1701 Linden Ave., which same home was used in the movie "Avalon"). Moving several times, Jacob died in his summer home in Cloverlea on June 24, 1901.
