Dead Fred's Genealogy Photo Archive, a free, fun photo genealogy research web site devoted to helping you visualize your heritage!

Dear readers,

Please help us keep DeadFred alive. 90% of our expenses are supported by donations averaging $5. Not many visitors contribute. If each visitor reading this right now gave $2, our fundraiser would be done by the time you finish reading this. That's right, the price of a large can of soda would do it.

If DeadFred is helpful to you, please take a moment to help us. We are a very small group of volunteers serving thousands of readers daily with very little outside support. DeadFred is a place to share and discover the faces of your ancestors. The funds we receive go toward maintaining and improving your chances of discovery. Please help us so we can continue to help you.

Thank you,
Joe Bott

Comments: H. B. Cowan (Nee: ) | Ontario Canada | 1901-1920 | Comments: This picture of Mr. H. B. Cowan appears on page 147 of The Canadian Horticulturist, vol.XXVII, no.4, April 1904. There is some small amount of information on him on pages 144-145 of that volume. Please see that reference for more details. He was Canadian from Eastern Ontario. In 1901 he was editor of the Ottawa Valley Journal. He became involved in road improvement and horticulture and arranging fairs and competitions. He was also editor of the New England Homestead at Springfield, Massachusetts. He was a well known athlete and held the Canadian single blade paddling championship at one time. He was also a good wrestler. He later worked for the publication Canadian Horticulturist. That is all the information I have on this picture. I am not researching this line, just saw the photo and thought I'd post it.
