Comments: Thomas Jonathan Burrill (Nee: ) | IL United States | 1901-1920 | Comments: This portrait of Professor Thomas Jonathan Burrill (1839-1916) appears as frontispiece illustration to the book, "An Introduction to Bacterial Diseases of Plants," by Erwin F. Smith, published by W. B. Saunders Co., 1920. See that reference for more details. Prof. Burrill was the discoverer of the first bacterial disease of plants (pear blight). Photograph dates to 1884 (age 45) and the handwriting dates to 1915 (age 76). (See also the link: http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=378653 ) That is all the information I have on him. I am not researching this line, just saw the photo and thought I'd post it.
