Comments: Thomas Harrison Parker (Nee: ) | Woodstock Canada | 1851-1900 | Comments: This portrait of Mr. Thomas Harrison Parker appears on page 301 of The Canadian Horticulturist, vol.XXI, no.8, August, 1898. See the biographical sketch of him on pages 301-302 of that volume (there is also a photo of his house). He was born in Cumberland, England 10 February 1828. He came to Canada with his parents in 1831. His father bought a farm near Peterborough and engaged in the lumber business. In 1846 the family moved to the County of Oxford and purchased a farm on the 16th con. of East Zorra. Two years later Thomas returned to Peterborough and worked in a sawmill. He later apprenticed at a dry goods store in Brantford and then later he worked at a store in Hamilton. He began his own mercantile business in Woodstock. He developed a great interest in horticulture and floriculture.
