Comments: William A. Whitney (Nee: ) | Iroquois Canada | 1851-1900 | Comments: This picture of Mr. William A. Whitney appears on page 138 of The Canadian Horticulturist, vol.XXI, no.4, April, 1898. See that article for more information (there is also a picture of his house on that page). He was born in the County of Grenville in 1834 and educated at Victoria College (BA 1860, MA 1864). In 1860 he became principal of the Iroquois High School and he stayed in that position for 26 years. He was also classical Master of Morrisburg Collegiate Institute for over seven years. He retired in 1893 and turned his attention to fruit and flower culture and the study of bees. He had a home consisting of ten acres on the bank of the St. Lawrence River just below the Eastern limit of the village of Iroquois. At one time he was president of the Iroquois Horticultural Society.
