William Steuben de Zeng was born in Little Falls, New York, 16 March 1793. He was the son of Baron Frederick de Zeng, who had come to America in 1783. William Steuben de Zeng came to Geneva in 1808 at the age of 15. He was a co-founder of the Ontario Glass Works and was also involved in the founding of Geneva College (later Hobart). He died in Geneva, 15 August 1882.
