His father was William McHale (1864-1924) and his mother was Mary Lavelle (1865-1900). He was eldest of seven, including, Patrick (1885), Margaret, John, Mary (married James Gavin), James W. (also of Syracuse) and William. Thomas came to America in 1907 and was a Boston cop for 7 years before he moved to Syracuse where he was employed as a diecaster for Franklin Auto Works for many years.
