He enlisted in the Civil War on the 25th day of May, 1861, age 19 as a private in Company E. 2 Regiment Infantry Maine Vol., commanded by Captain Emerson, commanded by Colonel Venney. He enlisted at Willitts Point L.I. to serve three years and died at the Battle of Groveton, Va. on Aug. 30, 1862 by gunshot wound in 2nd Bull Run, VA. George was a brother of Albert S.
