She was the oldest daughter of George and Ada Wells Flewelling, farmers in Storm Lake, IA. Claud, a ranch hand on the Flewelling farm, was a son of Austin Redding and Drucilla Money Cosby, and a native of Joplin, MO. Their marriage was not endorsed by her parents, and was the result of elopement. The young Cosby couple had 5 children in their 49 year, 362 day marriage. The children were Wesley, Robert, Dorothy, George and Russell. Claud was a farmer, an olive curer, and a sheet metal man. He and Alberta died in Long Beach, CA, and are buried there.
