Comments: Enoch Hill (Nee: Hill) | Hutchinson KS USA | 1901-1920 | Comments: Enoch was the eight child of Rebecca (Woodruff) Hill and Labon Hill. He was born on a farm called Chestnut Orchard near Rock Castle, Jackson County, West Virginia, September 17, 1846. At the age of sixteen he lied about his age and along with his brother, Elijah, he enlisted in the Union Army, Company ''K'' 13th West Virginia Volunteer Infantry. He served the last eighteen months of the Civil War. He took part in the Shenandoah Valley campaign and eight battles, including the battles of Winchester and Cedar Creek. At the close of the war he returned home and entered the ministry of the United Brethren Church. He married Rachel Jane Kimberling of Union Township, Mason County, West Virginia. He acquired ownership of his father's home place which he sold to Joshua Shinn his brother-in-law. In 1876 they moved to Kansas where he continued in the ministry. Rachel (Kimberling) Hill died January 6, 1914 (her birthday). After the death of Rachel, Enoch married a second time to Sarah, the widow of J.M. Anderson. She was a pioneer resident coming to the state from Iowa in 1873, with her first husband Mr. Anderson. Sarah died on March 24, 1935 at the age of 90. Enoch died December 22, 1928. Rachel Jane (Kimberling) Hill and Enoch Hill are buried in Nickerson, Kansas Cemetery. Rachel and Enoch were the parents of nine children
