Dead Fred's Genealogy Photo Archive, a free, fun photo genealogy research web site devoted to helping you visualize your heritage!

Dear readers,

Please help us keep DeadFred alive. 90% of our expenses are supported by donations averaging $5. Not many visitors contribute. If each visitor reading this right now gave $2, our fundraiser would be done by the time you finish reading this. That's right, the price of a large can of soda would do it.

If DeadFred is helpful to you, please take a moment to help us. We are a very small group of volunteers serving thousands of readers daily with very little outside support. DeadFred is a place to share and discover the faces of your ancestors. The funds we receive go toward maintaining and improving your chances of discovery. Please help us so we can continue to help you.

Thank you,
Joe Bott

Comments: MARGARETHE CHRISTINA FRUECHTENICHT (Nee: FRUECHTENICHT) | MARNE SCHLESWIG/HOLSTEIN GERMANY | | Comments: The widow of painter, Gerhard Buhmann, Maria Christina Fruechtenicht Buhmann married Marne photographer, Johann Christoph Friedrich Engelke, in February 1862. I believe this is a photo of Margarethe with her new husband, and her two surviving children by Gerhard Buhmann, Johannes, and Maria Christina. Both Johann and Maria emigrated to San Francisco, separately, before 1880. Johann was a shoemaker. Maria Christina Buhmann came to San Francisco in 1879, and married Carl Heinrich Theodor Langpaap, a hotel proprietor, in 1880. The Engelke's had 5 additional children, and raised them in Marne. It is believed that this couple remained in Marne 'til their death. Photographer JOHANN CHRISTOPH FRIEDRICH ENGELKE
