Comments: Dorothy Nell Dobbs (Nee: Dobbs) | Denton Tx United States | 1941-1960 | Comments: EASTLAND — Dorothy Nell (Dobbs) Byrd went to be with her Heavenly Father on May 24, 2002, from her last residence in Denton. Born Dec. 12, 1925, in Kosse, Limestone County, Dorothy was raised in Eastland. She later attended Draughn’s Business College, which prepared her for an illustrious career in accounting. Many friends will remember her work at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home in Odessa for over 20 years. She had been a resident of Odessa for over 30 years and was a member of the American Business Women’s Association, the Medical Center Hospital Women’s Auxiliary and Crescent Park Baptist Church. At the time of her death, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Eastland.
Dorothy married James Ford Byrd in 1943, and they moved to West Texas in the early ’50s to rear their three children in the first gated communities, El Paso Natural Gas’ camps. “The best place one could raise children,” she often said.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Aaron Ellis Dobbs and Iva Lee (Nixon) Dobbs; her two brothers, Wallace Aaron Dobbs and Bobby Gene Dobbs; her first husband, Ford; her second husband, Connard Neil Ellis of Odessa; and son-in-law, Bill Mullenweg.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Darlene Mullenweg, Derrell Byrd and his wife Margaret and Deborah Roach and her husband Denny; nine grandchildren, Lynn Davenport and husband Chad, Mike Mullenweg, Jeannie Hopkins and husband Shane, Tressa Clarke and husband Blair, Eddie Byrd and wife Amanda, Dr. Jay Roach and wife Debbie, Carrie Hopkins and husband Neil, Kelley Kacal and husband Mike and Jennifer Collazos and husband Dave; 13 great-grandchildren, Sarah, Daniel, John Connard, Austin, Hannah, Madison, Taylor, Bailey, Mason, Morgan, Kelsey, Abbey and Sydney; sisters-in-law, Eloise Lowrance Dobbs, Bobbie Pittman and husband Luce and Patsy Hogan and husband Lynn; several nieces and nephews; and her extended Ellis family.
Services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2002, at Bakker Funeral Homes Chapel with Neal Weaver officiating. Internment was at Flatwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Flatwood Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 363, Eastland, Texas, 76448-9640.
