Comments: Sarah Gertrude Thompson (Nee: Brown) | Everton MO USA | 1851-1900 | Comments: Sarah Gertrude Brown daughter of Benjamin and Martha ne'Carr Brown, married LeRoy Frank Thompson 25 Dec 1858. Sarah is supposed to have been part Cherokee or Osage Indian. Her husband died in the Civil War at the Battle of Wilson Creek Missouri on 10 Aug 1861 and was buried on the battle field where he fell. His remains may have been removed when the national cemetery was established, but if so, he is now in an umarked grave. She was pregnant with their second child at the time of his death. Her husband's brother, George Thompson, began to spend time with her during the war and the family believes they became romantically involved. Some even believe her second child was actually fathered by George. At her burial record in the cemetery at Sinking Creek, Everton ,Dade Co, MO it is erroneously recorded that she was married second to George Thompson. This is not true. George Thompson was married to Catherine Link. He died at the battle of Boston Mt in Arkansas on 5 Jan 1863 leaving a widow and 6 children. Sarah was b. 30 Jan 1835 in KY and d. 22 Nov 1916 at Rockprairie, Dade Co, MO. She is buried at Sinking Creek Cemetery as Sarah G. Jerome. Her second husband was a Civil War Confederate Veteran, William Eli Jerome, and they had 7 children together.
