Comments: Clement Valtille (Nee: ) | Lens France | 1851-1900 | Comments: When my grandmother Sophie Roberts passed away in a small town called Lehigh in Oklahoma, my father inherited her household items and furniture. Tucked away in an old desk he found some old correspondence letters that his mother wrote to her family in France. By doing a thorough search of the letters and finding out the relatives she was writing to, he discovered over 200 relatives in France he had no idea he was related to. My father traveled to France several times, discovering his roots. While becoming friends with his newly discovered relatives, he also was given photographs of family members who are no longer with us. The picture I am submitting is of my 2nd uncle Clement Valtille. He was born in Lens, France on 9 May 1886. The photograph that I have submitted is dated March 12, 1919. It is very important to hold onto old correspondence, photographs, journals and anything else of significance when investigating family geneologies. If my grandmother hadn't kept her letters, my father would have never have discovered the French side of our family. Our family has just gotten bigger, thanks to my grandmother who is no longer with us. Clement Valtille was with the French Foreign Legion.
