Comments: Joseph L Polak (Nee: ) | Crete NE United States | 1901-1920 | Comments: I have two old postcard photographs belonging to the POLAK Family of Nebraska. The first is a photograph of Joe POLAK mailed from Crete NE to his sister Miss Bessie POLAK in Prague, NE. The message to his sister is about her writing to him, he is feeling fine now and working again, and wants to hear from her soon. I'm guessing that it was taken between 1907 and 1915 with Joe likely in his teens or 20's at the time. The second photograph is of Bessie POLAK and was sent to Miss Bessie H. POLAK in Prague, NE. There is no other dates or locations on this photograph. Bessie is likely in her teens or 20's at the time it was taken, likely between 1907 and 1918. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding the family: Joseph “Josef” or “Joe” L. POLAK was b. 12 May 1893 in Linwood or Mead, NE to parents John or Jan Joseph or James POLAK (1867-1959) and Amelia “Anna” KUBIK (1873-1904) who were married in 1890 in Saunders County, NE. Joe was one of 7 children born to this couple including Frank Cyril; Joe; Bessie Helen; Adolph John; Jarolim “Jerome” Henry; Agnes; and Anthony or Anton Francis or Franticek or Frank POLAK, all born between 1892 and 1904. After his mother died his father married Emma Lorenc BURESH (1880-1966) and four more children were born including Charles; Cyril John; John “Johnnie” Cyril; and Gertrude Marguerite Ann POLAK, born between 1907 and 1917. Emma also had a daughter Agnes BURESH (1901-1955) from her first marriage. Joe died 7 Oct 1918 while serving in WWI and is buried in the Saint Marys Cemetery in Valparaiso, NE. Bessie POLAK was b. 26 Aug 1893 in Nebraska to parents Frank Joseph POLAK (1865-1963) and Mary KUBIK (1870-1954). Bessie was one of 11 children born to this couple including Mary; Anna; Bessie; Leo; Agnes Pauline; Amelia; Blanche; Helen; Frances; Framer V.; and John POLAK, all born between 1888 and 1906. Bessie died 29 Nov 1971. Bessie Helen POLAK was born 3 Jun 1895 in Linwood, NE to the same parents as Joe POLAK. Bessie Helen and married James Frank JANOUSEK (1898-1984) in 1920. Bessie Helen died 20 Oct 1989 in Lincoln, NE and is buried in the Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in that city. I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that the photographs can be passed onto them. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
