Hiram lived and worked in New London as principal of the New London Female Academy in the 1840s. Back of image has written James Goddard New London and the photographer is Seaver, 27 Tremont Row, Boston. Reverend John Edward Goddard was a graduate of Bowdoin College in 1833. Later a merchant and was noted as being"devoted to the colored race".
