With the inauguration of through passenger service over the U. S. air mail pilots of the Michigan division of the Thompson Aeronautical Corporation discarded helmets, goggles and open-cockpit planes for navy officers regulation uniforms and upholstered cabin mono-planes, as the one and only photo of the entire group, above, would indicate.
For one brief moment during the exchange of mails by the planes at Michigans air mail base, Kalamazoo, on inspection day prior to inauguration of the new passenger service, this divisions aerial postmen posed with their operations officials, as follows: Bottom. left to right, Mail Pilots Fred W. Strine, Forrest E. Kelch and John L. (unreadable) Haber; top, left to right, Walter A. Goodyear, superintendent of the Chicago-Bay City division, Mail Pilots George W. Hill, Jay W McClaflin, Thomas J. Hill and Richard W. Pears; and John L. (unreadable) manager of all operations for TAC on CAM 27. The they (unreadable) a-wing.
