Hi,

I was so very excited to see your photos of my relatives, Marie and Hannah Tiedeman. Marie was my great-great grandmother and Hannah was her daughter. I have never seen either of these photos before and I only have photos of Marie as an older woman. Can you tell me anything about where they were found? Also is it possible to purchase the originals or copies?

Thanks so much!
With kind regards,

I am looking for more info on my father’s side of the family and found your photos through this site. My father was Willis Lee Herrod. He was born in 1912. I think that Radicy Herrod was my great-great-grandmother and she was full blooded cherokee. I have a very large framed photograph of her.I know that Dr. Willis Lee Herrod and Dr. James L. Herrod are related to me, but not sure in which order. I would really like to know the lineage from Radicy Herrod. Do you know who she was married to and if Dr. Willis Lee and Dr. James L. are her sons? My dad’s oldest brother’s name was Gordon Herrod. Are you related to the Herrod’s? Hi

I would like to make a correction on the photo that is tagged as Rufus Deyo. It is in fact a picture of Frank Deyo, my father-in-law.
Rufus Deyo was the son of Jerome Deyo.

I enjoy seeing pictures of people that I know. Quite a few of the pictures that you have entered are people that I knew — Clara Ladue, the Bushey family etc.

Thanks

Just ran into your post with the photo of John McGhan. I have a great great great grandfather named John McGhan. One of the photos I have shows him with a full beard. I also have a medal engraved with his name; it is from the Civil War. He apparently was assigned to a West Virginia regiment. Wonder if this is the same person–not a common surname. I also know that my John McGhan is buried in Spokane, Washington.

My husband is Joseph Merritt and his grandmother’s maiden name was Mary Ann Ryder and her parents were Walter & Cornelia Ryder. His parents were Benjamin & Mary Ann Ryder. Benjamin’s parents were Nathanial and Susan Ryder. Nathaniel’s parents were Nathanial Uriah & Phebe Ryder. They lived in Hempstead for most of the 1800s. In the mid 1600s they lived in Gravesend. I had just found this information in 2009 and have not had time to do any more research so Justine may be related to my husband as Josef could have been a cousin of Mary Ann. If you have any information on this family I’d appreciate hearing from you. I have no photos of the Ryders.

Thank you for posting this picture. I may be on a dead end, but I saw a posting for Lydia Butler. My great-grandmother’s name was Lydia Butler, but I cannot find anything on her except she was married to Laverne Butler for a time. Hi! I have been working forever on our Butler family genealogy, utilizing a website and family members, etc.. I found this photo website on accident, and then Butler photos.. realizing how many Butlers there are nationally, I’m taking a chance by contacting you. The reason I am, is because my great-grandfather was Laverne “Vernie” Butler of Wisconsin. They also called him the “Hermit of Rocky Island”. He was married three times and mostly stayed in the area. Would any of the folks in this picture be connected? Thank you in advance for your time.

He has been in a nursing home for the past few months and we may not have him much longer, so the picture of him at 3 is very special to my heart. I believe it had been addressed to my great grandmother, from other information I have. You have inspired me in turn to post some photos that I have acquired at various markets. Bless you heart!

Hello,
I happened across this posting. I am intrigued by the listing of the given name Azro. I have Hadleys in my lineage - Esther Hadley married Moses Quimby. They are connected to a Hogg line and the name Azro was used a few times in that line. It is a very different name, and this is actually the first time I have seen it except for in my Hogg-Church line. It would be wonderful to hear from you to see if there is a connection.
Please contact me directly using my e-mail address above.
Thanks,

There is no way that Irene Flett is your grandmother. I have definitive proff that she died in 1922 of menengits and is buried inFort Frances, but it still does answer the question of how you came to have this photo. If you could help me with Elizabeth High’s ancestry, I would be happy to share what I have with you. I thought that her husband died in 1870 or before because of what I found in other’s genealogies, but I have discovered that he apparently didn’t return after the war, but me/marriedt someone else and had another family. My question that I hope you can answer is “did they (Elizabeth and William S.) quietly obtain a divorce and not tell anyone, or did he commit bigamy- was that a crime in 1870″?

I run in the bloodline through the Giffords to the Haskins and then to Evans of Bemus Point (Chatauqua County). Am sure you have seen all of this in the Bemus Point Cemetary recordings that my Grandfather kept well guarded.
Wish I had more information that I could share at this time - but since I am a US guy (now age 42) and have substantial networks in the UK - will take my proximity to dig back further. If you have any concrete lineage information that leads back to the UK - please share and I can get going on it from here.

first saw this pic of nelms a couple of years ago on dead fred. Since, I have been working on the lineage history of the Nelms family. My aunt Rubye KITE Nelms married Hubert Haliburton Nelms. He was in WWI. Hubert’s father was John Nelms. This family moved into Izzard Co. Arkansas by the WWI and eventually lived in Oklahoma/Texas. Hubert was very tall, and looked alot like the father in this photo. Hubert was blown out of a trench in France and broke both arms and both legs and suffered mustard gas damage to his lungs and voice box. He and my aunt had no children, but were very much in my life and if you have an inclination to sell this picture? I am available, if the cost is not too much. I am old and live on SS. but, not broke. grin. thanks again. Judy Hugg Grimes, Yorba Linda, CA.

Re your picture of Rebecca Stiles. I have a picture of Rebecca Stiles, and she looks exactly like the heavy set lady on the right, not the left. Also, is the child you are referring to as raised by Rebecca’s sister, Joseph Alexander Calhoun? (I notice you also have pictures of him at this site). My research tells me he was raised by Harriett Cordelia Buchanan and her husband, Pleasant Alexander Calhoun. His birth records do indicate Rebecca Stiles and Pleasant Alexander Calhoun as his parents. There is a Lucinda Calhoun who was married to Thomas Washington Calhoun, the the half-brother of Pleasant Calhoun. But she was not Rebecca’s sister.

Perhaps your info is correct, and mine is in error. What sources do you have? Like you, I certainly would like to know, because Catherine Rebecca Stiles is my Great-Great Grandmother, too.

Your reply would be appreciated.

Hello! I noticed your Hain pictures on deadfred.com. I am a direct descendent of Adam Hain, son of Daniel and Elizabeth (Young) Hain. I was wondering if you could email me digital copies of your Hain pictures?

We have been in the possession of a photo book that dates to the mid-1800’s. We were unable to identify who they were. I recognize Anna Hain and so now believe that the entire book is Hain photos, including Eli Hain who died in the Civil War. The digital copies will help me compare.

Thank you so much!

Hi,
I am Michelle Harrison, my tie in is that I am a descendent of Frederick Cronise through Jacob Cronise, through Marshall Calvin Cronise, through Clara Virginia Cronise, and down the Housman line. I am interested in any help in making these ancesters more “alive” for my sons. I have three boys and though I know they are not particularly interested now, I also know that there will come a time when they will want to know who they have come from. I was helped in finding your site by another descendent but she had limited information for now. I am hopeful that if I add all the bits and pieces together, I can come up with a good bit for my boys.
Thank you for any help,

Hi,

My name is Peg (Kephart) Morrow. I believe that Lucinda Marcus was my 4th Great Grandmother. My father’s mother was Pauline Bleaker Marcus who married Thomas Kephart in Cherokee County, NC in 1924. She was 1 of 11 children of Clark Jackson Marcus, DOB 10/20/1887. The Kepharts and the Marcus’s were and are very enmeshed. After his wife, Emily Nellie Carpenter, died in 1913 he married Nancy Lucinda Kephart in 1916. My grandmother, Pauline, married Nancy’s brother (her step-uncle as she was the daughter of Emily Carpenter) Thomas. So that makes my step-great grandmother also my great-aunt. So many different generations named their children the same names as previous generations that sometimes it is hard to sort them all out.

Confused? It’s kind of hard for me to wrap my head around that type in inter-family marriage in this day and age, but they weren’t blood.

Do you have any information about the history/lifestyle/family dynamics of the Marcuses? I can track them to the DeMarquis surname through ancestry.com, but can find no other source. As I do my research, I like to have a historical context of my ancestors to make it more interesting.

Thanks for the picture that I found at deadfred.com. I’ve never visited that site before, but will now! I’ve not published my tree onto ancestry.com as yet. Have you? Would you recommend it?

Somehow, we are related!

-Peg

Hi, I am contacting you again as I viewed the rest of your pictures and realized a connection. In doing genealogy, it turns out that my dads fathers, wifes father is Thomas Thompson. The locations mention for the Thompson photos fit. I have a copy of the Marriage license for Thomas McIntyre and Rebecca Thompson listing in Mexico, Mo. Audrain Co. New Market Township. Both the McIntyres and Thompsons were located later in St. Joseph, K.S. Dearborn, Parkville, Independence before it was Independence, Blue, as well as many more throughout Mo and KS. All I can say is WOW!!!

My ggg grandfather was Obedient Baird/Beard born abt 1902 in Sumner Ten. He later moved to the southern counties of Indiana,Spencer,Dubois,Pike,Perry and Knox. He died in either Spencer Pike of Dubois. He m. Mary Abigail Hargrave. They had a son Obedient. This is a family name that is passed down from a grandmother whose last name was Bedent or Bendent. The name has been spelled Bedent,Bendent,Obedience,Obedient and Bedence down through the generations. I have no doubt that this is one of my Obedient Baird;s family. He had a bro named Jonathan who had a son named Seward Beard, his son was Obedient. There were loads of family with this name. Supposedly came down from Old John Baird of Midloathian Scotland who came to the US. Do you have ANY idea of where it was made? I am desperatly trying to learn more of the family. Although it is known about the Old John’s line,I have had various ideas of who his father was. I am not even sure of the exact date of his birth. Hope this might help somehow for you and I both. sure do hope that those wonderful Civil War pics are of my famiy

Hello,
I was very excited to see the Newbrough family photo that you uploaded to Dead Fred. My husband is descended from John Westley Newbrough, Sr. I’m a little confused, though, why the location is listed as Texas. The Newbroughs lived in Iowa. I’m assuming that a Newbrough descendant moved to Texas and the photo went with them. I would love to have a copy of the image if at all possible to add to the family album.

Are you related to the Newbroughs? If so, I have a great photo of John W. Newbrough that I would be happy to share with you.

Thank you very much,

The information on my Greatgreatgrandfather Thomas Hightower is the best that I have.
His name was found in at least one document as Thomas H. Hightower.
But, usually it was found as only Thomas Hightower.
Since his father was Henry Hightower, some of us in the family have a feeling, that if, infact, his middle initial was “H”, the “Henry” was most likely his middle name. But, that is uncertain, until better documented.

I research and write about local history in my community, including the village of Baldwinsville, and the towns of Lysander and Van Buren (which contain it) in Onondaga County in upstate NY. I write a local history column in the Baldwinsville Messenger every other week or so. I occasionally “rescue” old letters, photos, and artifacts from ebay, etc., and then try to reunite them with the family after writing a story about it in the local paper. Given his ties to Miss Fenner of the town of Lysander, I would like to acquire this photo for $5.00. If you would like me to verify my affiliation with the paper, please send me an e-mail, and I’ll respond with a hot-link to my byline online, so that you can check me out. Please let me know whether you have any questions, and/or whether/how you’d like to proceed. Thanks in advance for your help and consideration.

Trish,
We emailed each other regarding the picture of Harvey Whetham and it did take a long time for me to reply. Sorry about that. I guess you have changed your email since we last spoke and my message was returned.

I hope this note finds you well!

Trish ,

That is very interesting information. I have talked to some relatives to see if they have ever heard the names of your relatives without luck.

That is definitely my Great Grandfather in the picture though.

The tie to Sheffield for our family is that is where the homestead is.

Our family emigrated in the early 1800’s and the corner of the original farm is the Sheffield Cemetery. When my great grandparents passed away they lived in Sheffield and the place was sold to divide between the children. My grandfather bought a farm on the other side of Cambridge (Galt Preston and Hespler combined in the 70’s and the new city was named Cambridge).

It is funny because my grandmother on my mother’s side was widowed in her early 40’s and remarried Mr Bill Kelly. They lived in Sudbury.

Sorry I could not help you much.

Keep in touch.

Best regards,
Mike Whetham

My boyfriend’s name is Robert W. Bragan he is 47 years old and his father’s name was John Bragan. By any chance did your father have a brother named John that lived in Erie, PA towards the end of his life? Robert is the youngest of eleven children and doesn’t know much about his family history and I was just doing some research to surprise him, maybe? Thank you in advance for your time. By the way in the picture posted which one is your dad?

hi, my name is Amy and my great grandmothers family are the Van Zile’s. I was doing some family research on the Van Zile family members and came accross this photo you won in an auction. I am sure they are my family. Do you still have the photo and are you wanting to give it to a family member?

I wanted to inquire about the people in the photo posted. My Great-Grandfather name was William Bayles. I have been searching for information on his family without a lot of luck. We know he had a sister, but my Mother doesn’t remember her name. We do not know how many other sibling’s he had, if any. He was born in Missouri near the Iowa border I believe. Then I know they lived in Iowa near or in the town of Seymour, Iowa. Seymour is where my Grandmother and her siblings were born.
Do you think there is any connection?

Thank you for your time.

I am trying to find information about my Great Great Grandfather, John Strange Butler. He lived in Switzerland County, Indiana and Clermont county, Ohio. I believe he was born in 1825 and died between 1875 and 1880. Do you have any more information on this Butler that you submitted an image of, and/or of her son John? I would really appreciate the help!

Thanks in advance,

Hello. I am trying to find a John Strange Butler, who was my Great Great Grandfather. He most likely died before 1880 because I find him on the census with his wife and children in 1870 in Indiana, but in 1880, his wife (Lydia - which is why I am contacting you) is listed as widowed. They did live in Ohio and were there for the 1860 census. I am just wondering if you have more information on where your Lydia came from and what other Butler family connections you have.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Hi,
I was wondering about what info you have on the portrait of Benjamin Brown. Our fourth great grandfather’s name was Benjamin Franklin Brown and, according to the family story, he went to Vermont from Nova Scotia with his half-brother Phineas Brown. He is said to have been given a government contract to “blaze a trail” across New York State in 1820 and he subsequently went on to settle in the Rochester, New York area. There are many descendents trying to document his history and so far have had no luck (that we know of). There is a family history which states only that his father had 21 children by three wives–otherwise it is a mystery. Your portrait has many characteristics which are similar in past and current family members, so I just had to write and ask. I would be very interested in the story for your Benjamin Brown.

Thanks, Debbie Skibinski

Did your Clarence West ever live in Stockton, NY and know an Edith and Mary Brown in the time line of say 1934-1945? I have a picture of my mother Mary and her mother Edith in 1936 and I believe Edith was with someone named Clarence West. I also have reason to believe that Mary was around where he was in 1943. There is also a picture of all of them with Clarence West and his “father”. No name for the father….. Let me know. I am doing genealogy and would like to find the connection, and possible the place of death and burial of my grandmother Edith Brown. Regards, Robbyn

“I am interested in photos by E.A. Sather who had a photography studio in Tacoma Washington in 1890s. He was originally from Trondheim, Norway, then emmigrated to America and started out in Minnesota, possibly Bemidji, Beltrami County, Mn.”

I am assuming that you have access to the following document on the Sather house in Bend which has significant family history.
http://www.ci.bend.or.us/depts/community_development/planning_division/docs/historic/Sather.pdf

Also there is an October 25, 1950 article in the Bend Bulletin that has considerable family history for Evan Sather.
http://www.bendbulletin.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?fistype=gArchive&Category=NEWSPRINTARCHIVE&profile=1194&h1=en&q=evan+sather&gaurl=http%3A%2F%2Fnews.google.com%2Fnewspapers%2Fp%2Fbendbulletin

In addition, I can tell you that E. A. Sather and John Steidl (then village president of Bemidji, MN; later mayor of Bend, OR) left Bemidji on the same day (the last Sunday of 1902) bound for the West Coast.

My connection to the Sather family is that my mother’s sister married one of E.A.’s sons.

Have you obtained any additional information about E. A.’s photography career?

Tom

Hi,

I was wondering if you have any info on the Bowser from Sullivan Co. TN.

This is a long story, but my gg grandfather Rufus Watkins and his siblings could very well have been Bowsers. I just discovered that their mother Jane (Jennie) Wadkins had 5 children and was never married to the father. One census in Sullivan Co. lists Jennie as single with the name Watkins, but the children’s names are Bowser, and a later census lists the children’s names as Wadkins.

Hi there
I was wondering if you are related to the Bredbenner family? I have been researching Bredbenners for quite some time without much luck. My Husbands mother was given away and never spoke of her biological parents. The Bredbenners took her in living Buffalo NY.He was Miles Seward Bredbenner b.4/20/1881 & Ethel May Bredbenner. She considered them her real family. Just yesterday i found a book on Heritage quest with the genealogy of the Bredbenner family. William Clark Bredbenner born march 8,1879 & had a son William C.jr poss abt 1909 based on the book published 1915 by Luther B. Kline Historical & Biographical annals of Columbia & Montour Counties Pennsylvannia. I believe William is a cousin to Miles. Miles was sent to Wyoming Seminary School, Kingston Pa. & later moved to Buffalo NY. then died Elfers,Florida where he & 2/sons bought a huge Orange Grove. They tell alot of interesting stories about my husbands grandfather and other Bredbenners. I would like a copy of the photo but not sure how to go about it yet. He was a banker in Pa. & NY and
We are trying to find out how he came up with Dorothy as she is on the 1930 census Ny as a lodger. All we ever knew is that her real father was a drunk. Dorothy never celebrated her birthday and did keep her real name Hoffman.Thats it. All else is a dark secret.

I’d love to know if there might be any connection.

There are a couple of us researching the Watkins family tree. We do have quite a bit of info and are staying current with most members of the family, too. We have Watkins information going back to 1498 and are just trying to fill in any blanks now. We are definitely related to the Searcy, AR Watkins. Dora Coody Watkins, and Col. Thomas Watkins.
Email me if you are interested in anything in particular. I know we have questioned for you. I will pass on your information to my cousin, Veda Watkins, who will be thrilled to know you have info.

I have a photograph of my Great Grandmother whose name was Bobbi Wright (married Ebenezer Milford Williams) in TX. The photograph says “Bobbi Wright with grandpa Wright and cousin (possibly Geary) Stevens. The photographer is in Alvord, TX. The man in your photo shares many facial features. I have been able to find nothing on the Wright side since my greatgrandmother died in the 1918 flu pandemic and my grandfather was just a little boy when she died; all I have is the photograph. I would be interested in comparing photo’s…

I believe these children belong to Isaac Newton Busby. They had different mothers, but they all belong to him. He was a much honored war hero for being a doctor and helping during the war. There is a full biography of him on ancestry.com. All these childrens names are listed in his biography, except they spelled the one of the daughters names Verona. Please take a look!

I research all thing’s Busby and have tons of files I am still trying to organize. This is one I have been facintated by for a very long time on Deadfred.com

Thank you for sharing your photos,
Kimberly Barranti
