My next stop is to Milford Haven, Wales (MAP) to see an old college buddy, Dennis Harman, and while there to visit Pembroke Castle.

I met Dennis Harmen in 1971 in College after we came out of the service and since then we have kept in touch. Dennis travels worldwide for Exxon-Mobile recently coming [...]

Day #5 - Stepleton House

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

My only purpose for coming to Blandford was to visit Stepleton House (http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/452368) at Iwerne Steepleton, Dorset.
Stepleton House, a 17th century manor house on 100 acres is located 3 miles north of the town, was once owned by Elizabeth Cameron in the early to mid 1900s. Elizabeth (Lizzie) was a close friend of Henry Adams. [...]

Day #4 About Those Bastards In Blandford

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Up at sunrise for a last stroll to say “so long” to Much Wenlock before heading south to Blandford Forum, in Dorset.

I imagine it will be difficult to find another place like Much Wenlock with its orginial medieval motif. Feeling like a hobbit living in the shire can easliy be done here. It’s a romantic [...]

Day #3 Heading to Stokesay Castle

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

Overcoming the dread of driving again, I woke early, had breakfast (no black pudd’n), and got bravely behind the wheel heading to Stokesay. Stokesay has a medieval castle (manor house castle) called, cleverly, Stokesay Castle.
I failed to mention in my earlier posts that it took me a day and a half to figure out [...]

Day #2 Much Wenlock, England

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Up at 6:00am well rested. I walked about town for a bit, not a store open or a soul in sight. It feels as if I’m the only one in town. Except for the 1000s of quiet folks who have walked here over the past 1000 years…they were very evident (in my thoughts).

Trinity Church c1100 [...]

England Day #1

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Day 1

I arrived in Much Wenlock Saturday around 10:30 a.m. after leaving home Friday at 6:00 a.m. At the moment I am trying to determine if I gained sleep or lost it having been awake the whole trip so far. There seems to be a time warp episode taking place in my mind. I’m [...]

When is Tea Time in England ?

Friday, May 16th, 2008

I’m flying eastbound over the great pond tomorrow to visit some interesting and idyllic English countryside. Plus, meet with folks that I haven’t yet had the pleasure to meet and reunite with one that I have. This trip is a birthday gift from my wife, Laurie, and sanctioned by my children (now grown) to go walk in the steps of [...]
